Best Educational Christmas Gift For Children : Fisher-Price iXL Handheld Interactive Learning System
The
Fisher-Price iXL Handheld Interactive Learning System
is the Newest Electronic Learning Toy to hit the market just in time for the 2010 Holiday Selling Season. The iXL is really 6 six different devices in one and comes preloaded with software for each of the six applications right out of the box.
Just like the Vtech VReader, the iXL encourages children ages 3 – 7 years of age to learn to read and expand their vocabulary. One of the biggest advantages that the iXL has over the VReader is ease of use. Children will have no problem navigating between the various applications and will love the idea of loading their favorite music.
The iXL is a digital book reader, digital art book, photo viewer, game player, notepad and MP3 player all rolled into one. The iXL also has the ability to multi-task allowing children to listen to music and operate other applications at the same time. Adding songs and music is a breeze and can be downloaded to the iXL via the USB connection on any laptop or home computer.
About the size of a typical children’s book, the iXL also has a color Touch Screen with a plastic stylus and attached 7 inch nylon string. Other features include an SD expansion slot to add additional memory, LCD light adjustment sensor, single speaker, headphone jack and volume control. Parents will appreciate the locking battery compartment for younger children as well as the easy to use navigation menus. The iXL is very durable and that is a plus with the target age group of this product.
One really nice feature of the iXL is the ability for children to draw and color over uploaded photos via the photo viewer application. The story reader has 2 modes, story and free play. When using the story mode, you cannot use the screen or turn any of the pages. In free play, however, you can flip pages and interact with the story and animations. There are several pre-loaded games including a cooking game and basketball game that will appeal to boys and girls.
Overall, the iXL is a very versatile product at a decent price. The software included with the device is easy for kids to use and contains enough variations to keeps kids busy without getting bored too easy. The management software used to load the different games and activities is easy to use for just about anyone and you don’t need an IT degree to be able to use it. If you are looking for just a story reader, you may want to look at the VTech VReader. If you are looking for a multi-use device that is easy to use, feature rich and educational my recommendation is the Fisher-Price iXL Handheld Interactive Learning System.
